About Upside-Down Catfish
The upside-down catfish is a fascinating fish from the Congo River basin in central Africa, famous for its habit of swimming and feeding belly-up. This inverted swimming behavior is an adaptation for feeding on insect larvae and algae on the undersides of broad leaves and submerged logs. Their coloring is reversed compared to most fish: the belly is darker than the back, providing camouflage when viewed from below against the dark bottom.
