About Longfin Zebra Danio

The longfin zebra danio is an elegant variant of the standard zebra danio, featuring dramatically elongated and flowing dorsal, anal, and caudal fins that trail behind it like veils as it swims. It retains the same blue and silver horizontal striping as the standard form, combined with the graceful, flowing fins of the longfin mutation. The extended fins give this normally fast, darting fish a more stately, flowing swimming style while maintaining much of the original's energy and activity. Longfin zebra danios are slightly less robust than the standard form due to their larger fin area, but they retain the species' legendary hardiness and adaptability.

Care Tips

Expert Tips

Longfin zebra danios share the same basic care requirements as standard zebra danios but benefit from slightly calmer water with less aggressive current, as their extended fins create more drag. Keep them in schools of at least six at 65-77°F. Avoid housing them with known fin nippers like tiger barbs and serpae tetras that may target their flowing fins. They are slightly more susceptible to fin rot than standard zebra danios, so maintain excellent water quality. Feed quality flakes and frozen foods. Provide a secure lid to prevent jumping. They are still very hardy and suitable for beginners who want something slightly more elegant than the standard variety.
