The rabbit snail is a large, elegant freshwater snail from the ancient lakes of Sulawesi, Indonesia, particularly Lake Poso and the Malili lake system. It gets its common name from its long, drooping face and antenna-like tentacles that vaguely resemble a rabbit's features. Rabbit snails have long, spiral-shaped shells that can reach 4 inches and come in varieties including chocolate, yellow, orange, and gold. They are slow-moving, peaceful snails that graze methodically on algae, biofilm, and decaying plant matter. Unlike many aquarium snails, rabbit snails reproduce slowly, typically giving birth to one or two live baby snails at a time, making population management easy.
