About Gold Barb
The gold barb, also called the Chinese barb, is a peaceful, golden-colored fish originally from the Red River basin in China and Vietnam. Its warm golden-yellow body is accented with small dark spots and patches, and males develop more intense coloring during breeding. Gold barbs are selectively bred from the wild green barb, which has a more olive-toned body. They are among the most peaceful barb species, lacking the nipping tendencies of tiger barbs, making them excellent community fish. Gold barbs are active, mid-water schoolers that tolerate a wide range of temperatures and conditions. Their undemanding nature and attractive warm coloring have made them a reliable staple of the community fish hobby.
